Can I monetize videos of Risk of Rain?
Yes! Anyone can make videos and monetize them on YouTube or other video sharing portals.
How can I change the resolution to be bigger?
You can change the scaling in the option (top right of the main screen, or hit ESC in-game.)
Will this be released on Mac at any point?
While Mac and Linux was planned, GM:S has proven to have some issues in converting our files. If we resolve the problem we would love to be able to provide Mac and Linux support.
Does the random generation apply to the levels themselves or are those planned to be static?
Aspects of the map are randomized; enemy, chest, and player placement, along with features in the map itself (sometimes there will be a cave, sometimes there won’t be.)
How much will this game cost when released?
We are planning on releasing the game on PC for ~$10.
Do you plan on bringing this to mobile?
At the moment, we have no plans on moving to mobile devices.
Will there be unlockable characters or just skins?
Yes, there will be unlockable characters with all new skills. You will have to complete certain tasks to unlock them (for example, you will have to beat 3 main bosses to unlock a new class.)
How many bosses/enemy variants will there be?
This is hard to answer! It really depends on how many we can fit; we want to make sure that every level feels different to another. We are aiming for every level to have unique monsters but one; for example, level one and level two will only share a few monster types.
What are your goals of finishing the game? How many levels? How many items?
We plan on ~100 items and ~10 different levels that will be randomly selected every playthrough. It all depends on making sure we don’t sacrifice quality for quantity. We also plan for unlockable classes and a full soundtrack!
What platform are you developing on?
We are using GameMaker 8.1!
How long did it take you to get to this point with the game?
The first build was 11/24/2012.
Could you write some advice or provide a few links to help with your pixel art style?
The most helpful website for me was http://www.wayofthepixel.net/index.php?board=2.0. I almost never posted (the board is pretty slow), but all the previous topics are extremely helpful in learning what the heck to do. I think this is the only site I visited about pixel art; just search whatever you want to know about, and there will probably be a topic about exactly what you want.
Do item effects actually stack?
Yes, all item effects stack. There are a few with diminishing returns (cooldown reduction, stun chance, etc) but most stack linearly.
How many people are in on the production?
Two people are on the Risk of Rain Team, Duncan handles art and programming while Paul does PR and helps with game design. We also have the extremely talented musician Chris Christodoulou working on the Risk of Rain soundtrack!
Q: No Audio Plays + Error Defining External Function
-Uninstall and reinstall Visual C++, included in the ‘redist’ folder or can be downloaded again at (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30679)
-Restart your computer
-If running Windows 8, run the game in compatibility mode for Windows 7 (right click -> Properties > Compatibility)

-Make sure to run the game outside of Dropbox.

Q: When I host online, no one can join.

-Go to https://www.humblebundle.com/store/keyresender and type in your email address
-Wait for Email

Shoot us an email at email@example.com with as much info as possible (most importantly, your name and email that you signed up with.) Sometimes the process just doesn’t work. Also please check with your bank to see if your payment actually went through; a lot of people had their cards bounce from Kickstarter!
Q: The game runs slow!
While the minimum specs for the game is low, some graphics card dislike GameMaker’s surface handling functions. See if disabling Surfaces, lowering the graphics settings, and enabling frame skip reduces framerate issues.
Q: My game suddenly started dropping framerates when I unplugged my controller
Because of limitations of GM, there are some issues with Direct where if you plug in a controller and then LATER unplug it, the game will run much, much slower. Sadly, this is a limitation we can’t fix, so either:
-Plug the controller back in
-Restart the computer
